Last July, we were backstage again in Paris, at Couture Week, with Ronald van der Kemp (RVDK). We've been doing the hair for his shows for five years now, and it's always a blast. RVDK creates couture from what the fashion industry discards: leftover materials, deadstock, archives. Sustainable without any compromise on glamour. We love, love, love what he does.

Couture from the 3D printer
This season he went a step further: hairpieces, 3D-printed from recycled plastic. From waste to jewel, in one print. Backstage, we built each look around such a piece: a red bulldog clip on pin-straight, glossy sleek hair. A silver sculpture balancing on a twisted bun. Black feathers on natural texture. The hair became the pedestal, the piece the artwork. Exactly how couture hair should work.

Why this will be a trend
I'll be honest: I'm a hair accessory lover, forever. And this is going to be big. Brands have tried it before and it never really broke through; it remained something you struggled to spend money on. But now everything is coming together. I prefer to wear my own hair up, and as an entrepreneur, I'm always in a hurry. Then you want exactly this: a couture piece that you can just pin into your bun and you're done. Statement hair, effortlessly, super cool. Ronald just did it. Mark my words: I see something big coming, next season you'll see this everywhere.

Get the base right
The piece is the star, but the base is a tight updo that stays put. This is what we use backstage, and what works just as well at home:

Easy Up-Do Texture Spray
€ 35,00

Self Control Styling Gel
€ 28,00

Modern Hairspray Styling Mist
€ 33,00

Love Me Do Shine Oil
€ 39,00
