It's perhaps the most common question we get in the salon: can you have bangs with curly hair? The answer is a resounding yes. In fact, curly bangs are one of the most beautiful things you can do with curls. They soften your face, draw all attention to your eyes, and make your curls a deliberate choice rather than an accident. But they require a different approach than straight bangs, and that approach starts with the cut.
Why curly bangs work
Curly bangs give a hairstyle character without taking anything away from its natural texture. From a soft, grown-out curtain version for loose curls to full, rounded bangs for tighter spirals: they complete any head of curls. And unlike their straight sister, they don't need to be blow-dried every morning; they mainly need to be cut well.
The cut: it's all about shrinkage
- We cut your bangs with the curl, not against it. Curly hair springs up as it dries, sometimes several centimeters. That's why we cut curly bangs dry or on the fallen curl, curl by curl, so we can see exactly where they will land. Cutting wet and hoping is how bang traumas occur.
- Longer than you think. Curly bangs are deliberately cut with a length reserve: what falls on your nose when wet will suddenly be at your eyebrows when dry. We calculate for this shrinkage, and it's precision work that varies per curl pattern.

How to style them
- Style wet, along with the rest. Work your styler into your bangs at the same time as the rest of your hair: a little Styling Butter or Curl Gloss, and loosely twirl the curls around your finger.
- Leave them alone until dry. Touching them while drying invites frizz. Use a diffuser on a low setting or air dry, and only shake when everything is dry.
- The morning refresh. Curly bangs rarely sleep neatly. Damp fingers or a dab of Curl Balm, twirl the curls around your finger again, done. Thirty seconds, no heat.

Honest about the grow-out
Curly bangs also grow out, but they do so more gracefully than straight ones: the curl catches the in-between lengths, and the bangs naturally become a curtain version. Come by for a trim in between; it's a short service with us, and your bangs will stay in shape without needing to make an appointment.
